THE WHOLE ENCHILADA
AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED / SEASON 1 / PROJECT 001
The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most amazing and challenging places to live.
As a cyclist, world-class riding is a pedal stroke away— stunning mountains, forests, and coastline intertwined with diverse urban landscapes, all existing in a bubble of perfect weather.
The Bay is also the least accessible place in the world to live. High cost of living, lack of public support in infrastructure, and predatory financial and political interests have been driving people out of their homes for decades, a trend only made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our goals with The Whole Enchilada are twofold: first, it’s a tribute to our cycling home. We love the people who live here and make it special. We love biking here and look forward to it every day.
More importantly, this project’s goal is to raise awareness and funds for the work done by East Oakland Burrito Roll, a non-profit delivering mutual aid resources to unsheltered community members in East Oakland.
We’re not solving any problems with our project. We’re not addressing the root of any of the issues that make The Bay Area such a difficult place to live. We’re not addressing that the cycling community in the Bay Area has immense resources, yet often misses the mark in advocating for true change in their own backyard.
Figuring out how you can best make your community better is something you’ll have to do yourself, in your own home, with your housed and unhoused neighbors. We just hope to give you a place to start.
